You have probably heard of the idiom, “The devil is in the details.” And if you have ever had to read a detailed contract line for line, you know this to be true. It’s easy to overlook something that can bite you later. Perhaps you implemented a new program, and one small omitted detail threatened to derail all of your hard work.
The most interesting aspect of this saying is it’s origin. It is derived from an earlier German phrase, “God is in the detail.” This expression meant that if we were to do anything, we must do it exceptionally and thoroughly.
When we add in special touches during event planning, we are preparing to demonstrate our love for those who will be attending. Details are important! And they are never more important than when we are planning a women’s event. When I attend well put-together events, I feel valued, special and loved.
Have you ever attended an event where there was nothing special about it? A few years ago I attended an event along with the rest of my church staff, and by the time we left the venue, we were scratching our heads. It made us wonder why this particular group agreed to host the conference because they put so little effort into it, we did not feel especially welcomed. We were definitely NOT feeling the love!!!
I attended a blogger’s conference last year. Maybe you have heard of it? Allume. It is probably one of the most well-planned conferences I have ever attended. Every, and I mean EVERY detail was attended to with special touches.
I have a few photos of just the registration area to make a point of the level of detail in this one small area.
This hand-painted sign greeted us.
Registration had decorative alpha signage. The typical “A-I” with a black marker on a manila folder cut-out would not do for this event.
Below is the specialized index box that held special instructions for some of the guests who had special needs. Every small detail was planned to the nth degree! Isn’t THAT special? YES!
Can you feel and see the love of these few details? And this was just the beginning of a great conference.
As I am planning a women’s conference this year at my church, the level of detail demonstrated at Allume’s conference has challenged me to be equally detail-oriented. I hope we are up for the challenge!!! EEEK!!! #intimidated
It may be a lot of work, but remember…Love is in the details and God is in the detail.
