My mama always said there would come a day when I would be thankful that I’d had a fat, round face and oily skin – this would be true someday when I was older and dreading wrinkles, and for the most part she was right, though I still could’ve done without the fat, round face. One of my high school friends once jokingly asked me if I had ever noticed that I had porcine features. Well, up until that moment, no. I don’t know why I had not noticed this. After all, my “pig” nose stood out more than other feature in all my pictures – UGH!

As I’ve gotten older my oily skin has become a distant memory, so it has become important to use a good moisturizer. Here is what I look like today…

If you are joining me from Kelly’s Korner, you will be interested to know that I use this Oil of Olay moisturizer. It’s less than $6, and lasts me for months. I’ve tried much more expensive products before, but never again. After using it a few weeks I REALLY could tell a visible difference. My face’s skin looked much more supple. You can’t have good make-up application without good moisturizer products, so try this:

A healthy dose of attention to good looks is fine, but paying too much attention to our looks is vanity. I struggle with this sometimes. For instance, I hate wearing my glasses because I think they make me look “granny-ish” and less attractive. I tried contacts, but I don’t produce enough tears to keep my eyes moist enough for them. As such, I’ve actually debated between feeling attractive and seeing up close – crazy!

The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. Psalm 45:11 NIV

If I may take some creative license and say that this king is the “King”, and that He thinks you are absolutely breath-taking!

Continuing on with my creative license, I believe that when we “honor Him as our Lord” that is when we are the most beautiful!

So, how do we get to be this beautiful? How do we really “honor Him as Lord” with our lives? God said to Moses, “I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty,but by my name the LORD I did not make myself fully known to them”. Exodus 6:2-3 NIV. God is telling Moses that His people only knew Him as God, but now through the experience of the Exodus, they would soon learn to know Him as Lord. By knowing God as Lord, we fully know Him!

About this scripture, Matthew Henry says this:

We are most likely to prosper in attempts to glorify God, and to be useful to men, when we learn by experience that we can do nothing of ourselves; when our whole dependence is placed on him, and our only expectation is from him. Moses had been expecting what God would do; but now he shall see what he will do. God would now be known by his name Jehovah, that is, a God performing what he had promised, and finishing his own work. God intended their happiness: I will take you to me for a people, a peculiar people, and I will be to you a God. More than this we need not ask, we cannot have, to make us happy. He intended his own glory: Ye shall know that I am the Lord. These good words, and comfortable words, should have revived the drooping Israelites, and have made them forget their misery; but they were so taken up with their troubles, that they did not heed God’s promises. By indulging discontent and fretfulness, we deprive ourselves of the comfort we might have, both from God’s word and from his providence, and go comfortless.

In essence, people who do not allow God to be Lord of their life are spiritually “droopy”, if you will. God took the Hebrew children through the wilderness so that they would be totally dependent upon Him, making Him Lord, and they would, in turn, see His faithfulness, provision, love, grace and mercy. A life completely taken over by this truth cultivates a beautiful life and presents a beautiful person.

So, wear good moisturizer and wear Jesus well, too.
