Today, I’m sharing about how to make sense of life, because…you know, it’s STILL 2020… As such, I am going to share some tips on how we can scripturally think about things in hopes that it will help us make sense of the 2020 election outcome. Yes, I’m going there!

For those who have ears to hear, let them hear this:  As God’s ambassadors, it would behoove us to always take truth and operate in what is true.

Here is truth from Daniel 2:21 CEB:

God is the one who changes times and eras, who dethrones one king, only to establish another, who grants wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those with insight.

And from Romans 13:1-7,  HCSB:

Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God.  So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves…  Therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath, but also because of your conscience. And for this reason you pay taxes, since the authorities are God’s public servants, continually attending to these tasks. Pay your obligations to everyone: taxes to those you owe taxes, tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, and honor to those you owe honor.

From these two truths, we can be confident that God has chosen the next President of the United States, and regardless of who it is, we are not to resist that person for God’s Word says that we may bring judgment on ourselves – and who wants that?  Nobody!

These are two truths that needs to operate in what is true.  According to the US Attorney General, CISA, several Secretaries of State and the courts – mostly who were appointed by the current President – this election was not stolen.  Public servants, a.k.a. God’s public servants attended to their tasks when counting votes and they are to be treated with respect and honor, including the current President-elect, as well as the outgoing President.

Whenever you feel you cannot trust people, machines and elections, you can always trust God.  His sovereignty is supreme!

Do you recall that in the Old Testament the eldest son was to inherit the birthright and blessing?  However, we know that in two occasions, the second son received what was to belong to the elder – Jacob stole Esau’s birthright with their mother’s help (Genesis 27), and later Jacob purposely, despite Joseph’s displeasure, blessed Ephraim over Joseph’s firstborn son, Manasseh (Genesis 48).  Both of these occurrences were a part of God’s plans even though it did not seem to be the correct thing to do.  So, we could look at this election and say there is no way that this particular candidate could have won the election, but for God.  We could also say, there is no way this particular candidate could have lost this election, but for God. Both are true. But for God, do we have a new world leader, regardless of party and preferences. We must keep in mind that God is working His will in world affairs; He is not necessarily trying to work out any group’s preferred choice for the US Presidency.

The last truth, I will impart to you is from 1 Timothy 2:1-3 HCSB:

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,  for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

So that brings us to the moral of this election story – as God’s people, we are to accept the election results as it is God who establishes the authorities no matter how some may believe they were derived.  To do anything differently is an affront to God which may incur the wrath of God or local authorities. YIKES!

So, in a nutshell –

God’s responsibility: Establish World Leaders

Our responsibility: Pray for our World Leaders

This is truth operating in what is true.
