Women’s Ministry Tip – The Easter Basket Project

April 1, 2015 by Gina | 2 Comments

Women's Ministry

Whether you agree with Easter Baskets or not, we must remember that when dealing with unchurched people, there is nothing wrong with using things they are familiar with to introduce them to Christ.  We often say in Christendom that we will do anything short of sin to reach people for Christ.

I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 1 Corinthians 9:22b

Personally, I never gave my kids an Easter basket for Resurrection Sunday.  I didn’t take them trick or treating, nor did we do Santa, but I will gladly connect with the lost where they are at.  So, with that being said, I’ve got an idea starter that you can take or leave.

Women's Ministry Ideas, Easter Baskets

My women’s ministry outreach team did this one year, and it allowed us to make a connection.  They simply got names of families that were on our benevolent list; one of our pastors is responsible for administering our benevolence fund, and he provided them with some viable prospects.

From that list, they reached out to the selected families to see if they would like complimentary Easter baskets for their kids.  For the ones who said Yes, the team got busy putting together some extra nice baskets.  They also arranged a time for the moms to come pick them up.

Not only did the team get to personally meet the moms, they gave them a tour of our church (to give them a comfort level of being in our building), and they invited them back for Easter Sunday service.

We continued to use this list to meet needs and send invites for future women’s events.  Holidays are a great time to extend kindness and build relationships.

Spur on!

What a great idea! I love that they thought to have them pick them up at church! Did your team put more than candy in the baskets? I was thinking it would be great to include an Easter themed coloring book, an illustrated Children’s Bible, and a Veggie Tale video.

It just so happened that one of the women on that team worked for a corporate office of a major discount store chain and was able to get a lot of supplies donated, but any group can do it with donations from stores, their team or from a budget line item. I am sure they added Christian-related items, but don’t remember exactly what they are. But, YES, by all means, lift up Jesus with the items you mentioned. Thanks for dropping by, Cyndee!
