Women's Ministry

Ladies, we’ve got to keep up with pop culture to a certain extent if we want our ministries to be relevant!  What am I talking about, you wonder???  Why, Selfies, of course!

WELCOME TO WOMEN’S MINISTRY WEDNESDAY!!!

A “selfie” is a “picture of yourself, usually shared on any social networking website” according to About.com.  And, if you are still unclear, here’s more information.

Now, why I am talking about this?  Well, for one, you can do a lot with selfies.  For instance, let’s say that you are starting a new Bible study, and want to hype it up–you might challenge your women to post a picture of themselves studying their Bible or reading the Bible study book.  Further consider giving them a nifty hashtag to go with it!

Another idea is to encourage selfies at your next event, especially if you host it annually and desire to leverage multiple promotional initiatives.  I once attended a women’s conference where they had simply used colorful dry-erase markers to draw whimsical picture frames on the mirrors in the women’s restrooms.  They encouraged women to take selfies of themselves and tweet about the event.

I’m thinking about using this same idea at my church’s upcoming women’s event, The Confident Woman Women’s Conference. (Micca Campbell will be our guest speaker!) We will affirm our women by encouraging them to take selfies of the confident woman in Christ that they see looking back at them during our breaks.

Another neat idea for conferences that I recently came across was the provision of DIY backdrops for group pictures, or groupies!  Are you following along with me??? You can pay professionals to come in and set up a photo booth for you OR you can simply provide your own.  Women can always find someone to take their group picture at a women’s conference!

Here’s mine with my buddy, Cyndee Ownbey from the Women’s Ministry Toolbox at the Allume conference.

Note, that I did not realize how quickly the automated photo booth shot the pictures of us. Cyndee, on the other hand, looks very nice, doesn’t she???  And, she is, too!

Since I am thinking about creating my own backdrop for groupies for my upcoming women’s conference, I’ve been pinning away some ideas on a Pinterest board. Check them out here:

Before you go, please check out this new book that would make great Bible study curriculum.  It is a book title, The Day I Met Jesus that is part narrative, part scripture and part reference about 5 endearing women of the Bible.  Go here to see more.  I am doing a free give-away!

Spur on!

  2. Hello Gina and this is a good idea to attract interest to a number of events before the event happens. I’m glad you shared this and I’m currently working on an E-book and will have to use a selfie to generate interest. Have a great week my friend.

  3. You’ve got some cute ideas there. I prefer to be behind the camera instead of in front of it, by my kids are all about selfies….sounds like you had fun writing this post, too.
