Powerful Prayer Tip – How to Host an “Undinner” Prayer Meeting

March 17, 2015 by Gina | 1 Comment

How about a new twist to the old prayer meeting???

Recently, my women’s Sunday School Class decided to host an “Undinner” Prayer Meeting.  The goal was to host it at a classmate’s home one evening without serving food.  No meal.  No snacks.  Not even a cracker. I am going to share how we did it!

Welcome to Powerful Prayer Tip Tuesday!

We purposely did not serve food, which as you know, is highly unusual for any type of “church function.”  We did this for two reasons: (1) to keep it simple, and (2) to facilitate fasting for those whom felt so inclined.

It was such a wonderful time of prayer that I thought I might share some tips with you for your women’s group.

  1. Set it a convenient place and time. If no one volunteers to host or there is no best time for everyone, consider using your regularly scheduled small group time for the prayer meeting.
  2. Enlist facilitators. People are often afraid of prayer meetings because they do not like to pray in public.  A facilitator can put everyone at ease.
  3. Prior to the date, have everyone submit their prayer requests. You will want to encourage them to submit personal requests (not – my aunt’s co-worker who is ill).  You can open it up to requests for immediate family members, like husband, son, sister, etc. or not.  If you plan to do this on a regular basis, you may ask them to only concentrate on one thing for that evening of prayer or set a limit of up to no more than three requests, or something similar.  Use your creativity.
  4. Before the prayer meeting have the prayer leader/facilitators take all prayer requests and prayerfully consider a Bible verse for each one. Create cards – index or decorated ones that will be used at the prayer meeting. Don’t forget to print cards up that are blank on one side with a general scripture on the back, in case a guest shows up!
  5. Once all has arrived, assign everyone to a facilitator and move to different rooms for smaller gatherings of prayer. This works well if your group is large.  Try to keep it to around 3, or 4 at the most
  6. Once you are with your small group, disperse the submitted prayer requests. Make sure no one in that group has their own.
  7. Instruct everyone to pray for the person’s prayer need utilizing the scripture on the back of the prayer request.
  8. When praying, feel free to kneel at the person’s feet or wrap your arm around her shoulder or hold her hand.
  9. Background music of some hymns or Praise & Worship music along with burning candles are also nice touches.
  10. At the end, you can encourage the women to continue to use their prayer cards to pray for one another and keep in touch with that person, letting them know that they are continuing to lift them up on prayer.

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 18:20

Pray on!
