You have probably heard of the idiom, “The devil is in the details.” And if you have ever had to read a detailed contract line for line, you know this to be true. It’s easy to overlook something that can bite you later. Perhaps you implemented a new program, and one small omitted detail threatened to derail all of your hard work.
The most interesting aspect of this saying is it’s origin. It is derived from an earlier German phrase, “God is in the detail.” This expression meant that if we were to do anything, we must do it exceptionally and thoroughly.
When we add in special touches during event planning, we are preparing to demonstrate our love for those who will be attending. Details are important! And they are never more important than when we are planning a women’s event. When I attend well put-together events, I feel valued, special and loved.
Have you ever attended an event where there was nothing special about it? A few years ago I attended an event along with the rest of my church staff, and by the time we left the venue, we were scratching our heads. It made us wonder why this particular group agreed to host the conference because they put so little effort into it, we did not feel especially welcomed. We were definitely NOT feeling the love!!!
I attended a blogger’s conference last year. Maybe you have heard of it? Allume. It is probably one of the most well-planned conferences I have ever attended. Every, and I mean EVERY detail was attended to with special touches.
I have a few photos of just the registration area to make a point of the level of detail in this one small area.
This hand-painted sign greeted us.
Registration had decorative alpha signage. The typical “A-I” with a black marker on a manila folder cut-out would not do for this event.
Below is the specialized index box that held special instructions for some of the guests who had special needs. Every small detail was planned to the nth degree! Isn’t THAT special? YES!
Can you feel and see the love of these few details? And this was just the beginning of a great conference.
As I am planning a women’s conference this year at my church, the level of detail demonstrated at Allume’s conference has challenged me to be equally detail-oriented. I hope we are up for the challenge!!! EEEK!!! #intimidated
It may be a lot of work, but remember…Love is in the details and God is in the detail.

I agree that Allume does a great job with the detail and there is much to be learned from that. Thanks for taking the time to write it out. I am passing your site on to our events coordinator for Planting Roots, a conference ministry for military women. Blessings.
What a wonderful ministry – military women! Love that! Yes, please do and thank you! ~gina
What a great reminder Gina. And I appreciate you unearthing the original saying about the Lord is in the details. As a big picture person, I need extra help to focus on the details and I always appreciate so very much those who do put effort into the details! You have a lovely site!
Lisa, I am a big picture person, too! Thank you!
I am a detail person and a history buff….I had never heard the origin of the detail quote before….very interesting. Details are always important. Showing people that they matter does indeed, show God’s love to them. On a vacation with my husband to Maine, we stayed at a B&B. The hostess offered lovely big homemade muffins to me, which I declined because I cannot eat wheat…it really was not a problem to me. She said, “They are gluten-free. Your husband told me that you do not eat wheat.” She bought special bread… just for me. She made special (delicious) muffins ….just for me. I can tell you, that it did make me feel special….and it had nothing to do with getting to eat the muffins….it was that my husband took the time to tell her and ask if they would be serving anything that I could eat (not always as easy as it sounds)…and then she took the time to shop and prepare those things just for me.
Deborah, that was a great story and some great customer service, too. AND you must also have a great husband, too. Thanks for stopping by!!! ~gina
We should all do our best in all things but especially when we are presenting an event in the name of the Lord. It can be disappointing when others don’t do the same.
I cannot WAIT to attend this conference later this year for the first time! I have heard so many good things about it. Thank you for sharing, Gina. And yes, those sometimes overlooked details are SO important!
You will really enjoy it, Abby!
Hello there! We are neighbors over at Holly’s place today and I just want to say that I had the same sense of awe at Allume myself! I went a couple of years ago now and oh my goodness, that Logan and her team are AMAZING! I love to plan events and I think that helps us to take notice of all those little details even more! Just last night, I possibly erased my fingerprints while making no-sew bow ties for a baby shower I am hosting next month – but it’s all in the details, right? Praying for your Women’s Conference! I’m sure it will be great!
Karilee, you made me laugh. That is some real commitment to the details right there! I pray your event goes well! ~gina
This makes me think of a Proverbs 31 woman. Someone handling the Lord’s work with grace and poise, going the extra mile to make people feel loved and welcomed. I know you will do great. If your blogging work is any indication, I know you will be successful and help many others. 🙂
awww….Kristi! Thanks 🙂
