One of the most powerful things I have implemented in our women’s ministry is a blessing team. I have up to eight teams that work on monthly ministry projects from February to October, and one of them is called, Sarah’s Gifts, who determines who and how to bless other women groups in our church.
The team’s namesake is Sarah because she is a woman who left her life to follow her husband’s ambition for the Lord (Genesis 12). The blessing team studies Sarah while blessing our women who serve along with their husbands in ministry and who also serve the body of Christ themselves. Examples include our pastor’s wives, deacon’s wives, administrative church staff, and the like. It’s a fun group to be a part of, too.
This team’s activities have created the sweetest spirit among the women in our church. It has also been the team that has been attacked by the enemy more than any other. Satan would much prefer the women of the church to be hating on one another than to be loving toward one another, but we press on in love and good deeds. When women bless other women, it distracts us from the enemy’s strategies for jealousy and cattiness. It teaches us to prefer one another and to value one another, which builds up the church to operate as Christ intended.
The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. 1 Corinthians 12:21-26
The blessing team recently blessed our mother’s day out teachers with coffee, OJ and some delicious donuts. Here is the accompanying appreciation card:
I think that is the cutest, so I wanted to share it. What are some of your ideas for blessing other women in the church?
