Happy birthday to me! I am hitting the big 4-7 on Saturday! Yes, I am inching my way toward the big 5-0! That sounds soooo crazy to me because I just don’t feel “that old”. However, the closer I get to 50, the more I realize that it is really not that old at all; 50 just sounds old (to younger people).
Also, as I get older, I have discovered that we “plateau” around 40, meaning there comes a point where your body begins to get older than your mind does. When I was a kid, a teenager, and even a 20-something I knew and felt I was getting older both physically and mentally, but then around 40 I began to plateau. After that, I feel my body aging, but my mind/psyche/soul feels like it remains the same timeless age of 40-something. This may only make sense to those whom are 40-plus.
For my birthday, hubby will take me to the Cheesecake Factory for a date, and my mama and daddy will fix me a huge southern breakfast on Sunday. I did wake up to a wonderful back rub this morning, all because the hubs thought today was my birthday; he can never remember which day it is, but I love him anyway. And, I am looking forward to my real birthday backrub tomorrow!
I am thankful. I am thankful for another day, another year. I am thankful for my health, my family and my home. I am thankful for my salvation and ministry. I am blessed beyond what I deserve that is for sure. May I use all these blessings to bless and minister to others in the year ahead.
Now, let’s talk cabinets for those of you visiting from Kelly’s Korner.

I am thankful, BUT that does not mean that I am never going to update those cabinets! So here is what I’ve got, and maybe you can tell me what I need.
I have oak cabinets with gold knobs. Is the word “eighties” running through your mind right now?
I have white crown moulding and I love showcasing my old pieces of white milk glass on top. I am an old soul when it comes to decorating. I like my décor to stir up old memories of my grandparents.
Now, don’t cringe, but I love my wallpaper border. My girls hate it. It matches my wreath, and I don’t want to part with it because it is the flower arrangement I received from the funeral when my great-grandfather passed away in the early 90’s. He was 105! The grape wreath goes perfectly with my grape border, don’t you agree?
I am happy with my dining area, though. So, whatever I do in my kitchen must match.
This is my 80’s looking bar. I want marble counter-tops of course!
Now, here is my pitiful sink cabinet, which is the easiest thing to fix.
So what do you think I should do? I am thinking about painting them, but what color?
My walls are painted a neutral beige with a hint of light, light pink (it came this way). My wallpaper border is multiple shades of green, pinks and purples with gold. I do have a lot of shades of gold in my kitchen – picture frames, light fixtures, pie safe doors, etc. Feel free to look at my Pinterest boards here and here to get an idea of what I am looking for…I’m thinking green???
Please let me know your thoughts!!! I obviously need an intervention!

I think they would look great painted white – however, that doesn’t seem to be your style. I know someone who painted their cabinets black and they actually looked really good and classy. Otherwise, I would suggest glazing them and ivory-ish type color and adding brushed nickel knobs. That way your milk glass would still pop.
I found this – and it shows your style cabinets. http://www.roomzaar.com/rate-my-space/Kitchens/Kitchen-Re-do–Painted-and-Gla/detail.esi?oid=6681864
Crazy Mama – I love your suggestion! Thank you for sending me the pics, too. Had I built my house, I was going to use that very color scheme. I am going to think hard about this. Thank you!
I think the French Vanilla look would be great for you. You would paint the cabinets a parchment/off-white color (something with not too much yellow in it) and then apply a dark glaze, letting it settle in the natural crevices and wiping it off everywhere else.
Thanks for your input, Kelley! My elder daughter thinks the same thing.
My aunt just painted my mom’s oak cabinets a cream color and distressed the edges with a dark stain. it helps to have the distressed look with older cabinets so it doesn’t have to look perfect 🙂
I am hearing a lot of comments about creamy colors and that might be the ticket. Thanks, Amy!

Pinterest has a lot of positive reviews of this on builder grade oak cabinets.
Thanks, Carrie, I will check it out!
I love, love, love white cabinets of which I don’t have. (Golden honey maple). I just haven’t gotten up the courage to paint them. I think I’d go with an off white, creamy color with a glaze over top. Your white milk glass would still stand out. Joining you from Kelly’s SUYL.
Thanks, Deborah! That seems to be the consensus!
My first thought was green! I think you should pray about it & wait until the Lord directs you…nothing is too small to pray about! Love & prayers, in Jesus, Cynthia
Hello, I did paint my cabinets and my choice a gold color and glued in an insert of wainscot painted cream. I was looking for a french country look! It was a lot of work, but we just loved it! I have pictures of it on my blog. I wanted to invite you to my blog for a Link Up party on Wednesdays! Come and check my blog out and see if you wouldn’t fit right in! Blessings, Roxy
Do whatever the heck you like! Don’t give a thought to whether it’s fashionable or what anyone else thinks, even your girls. if you love that border keep it. if you love your wreath, keep it. be yourself, no matter how weird (or even boring) that may seem to others.
sorry, that probably didn’t help at all…..
