God recently drew my attention to a vain repetition I had been using in prayers lately. Matthew 6:7 discourages us from making vain (meaningless) repetitions in prayer, but here I was, doing just that. Saying this one phrase over and over no matter what the circumstance had become a bad habit for me until God drew my attention to it. How did He speak to me? It was while I was saying this phrase over and over that I was mentally stopped mid-sentence, and realized that what I was saying was really quite silly. As I thought through this vain repetition, I realized what I was doing was unproductive. I knew it was God cautioning me about it because I had been quite content with using this plea over and over. Remember Romans 8:6 which says that the Holy Spirit teaches us how to pray? My ineffective prayer chant was just that – ineffective! Please watch my video for the details about why:
