I have been struggling over my eating habits lately. I was doing good, but then I got sick and had surgery, which led to my church family bombarding me with delicious meals that were not consistent with dietary needs. I am anemic and should eat lots of green, leafy veggies that are unfortunately seriously lacking in pot roasts and yummy casseroles. I love comfort food in the form of creamy fattening glory and sweet sensations! So much so, that I would be content to eat that food all. the. time.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6

If only I hungered and thirsted after God’s righteousness like I do junk food, then I would be so like Jesus!!! Sadly, I am not. I mean, I will go out of my way to get what I am craving. If I have a hankering for something, I will get up, get dressed and drive to the next town to satisfy my hunger pangs, but no so much with scripture or prayer, even when I absolutely need it.

God’s righteousness can only be imparted to me through a healthy diet of God’s Word, Prayer and Church engagement. To fulfill this Beatitude, we must be dedicated to these things. We should desire them just like we do food. We should miss them when they are absent from our daily/weekly diet and we should realize how important they are for a healthy Christian.
