A Moment of Clarity: Why You Should Try to Forget What God May Be Telling You!

July 5, 2013 by Gina | Leave a Comment

The best thing you can do when you feel as if God is calling you to something big is to forget about it. Really! This is one of the best tips I have ever heard, and it came from my former pastor, Dr. Roger Putman. If you think God is calling you to the mission field, forget about it. If you think God is leading you to start a new ministry, forget it. This litmus test, if you will, culls out the authentic from the abstract. You see, if it is of God, you will NOT be able to forget it.

This is especially helpful to someone like me whom has a sanguine personality. Every idea that pops into my head sounds like something I should be doing. If I were left to my own devices I would probably not have any time for sleep for all the activities I would be engaged in. If I am called by God then I will have the needed passion to follow through; my sanguine personality gets bored once the activity is no longer interesting. While there are many good causes I could be a part of, I only want to be involved with those things God is calling me to. As such, I must remember that God has not called me to just anything and everything; He has called me to specific things! I must focus my attention toward Him and His will.

Here are some useful tips to help you forget:
1) Write everything down about the idea that is in your head. Sometimes it helps to just get it out of your head and down on paper. If this idea is of God, you will be glad you made notes when you were under the anointing of God’s creativity
2) Share it with your inner circle and get their feedback. Other godly women (and your husband, if applicable) can provide you with clarity, and a possible confirmation
3) Pray that God removes the idea, including the excitement and random thoughts, if it is not of Him. This is, of course, after you have written down your thoughts. In which, now you will want to be able to focus your attention on those things you know God has ordained for you to do.

For a Moment of Clarity: Know that God is specific. Remember Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” God has specific things for each one of us to do. Our goal is to discern what they are.

When Organizing Your Prayer Closet: Pray that God will help your spirit to zero in on those things that are His, and release your mind from those things that are not.
