GOD’S WORD is powerful, transformational, living, and meets the challenge of every situation, including our sins.  Yes, even the sins in the life of a believer.  Dare we talk about it?  Yes, we must.

There was that day when we received Christ as our Savior, but that was not the end of our salvation experience; it was only the beginning –the beginning of our journey of faith.  God leads us through the sanctification process of taking us from being less like our old self to more like Jesus.

In my previous post, I recommended that you begin making a list of your daily sins, shortcomings, and sins of omission.  I do this on a regular daily basis.  When I first began, I went back and reviewed my entries in my prayer journal, and noticed that I was a repeat offender!!!  There were a couple of things that I was repeatedly doing despite confessing them and supposedly repenting of them.  To repent means to turn the other way.  Evidently, there was a problem with my “repenter”.

Where was I going to start?  I decided that I would start my plan of attack by scouring the Bible for anecdotal scriptures.  Using a Strong’s concordance I looked up key words and picked out the appropriate scriptures to begin using during my prayer time.  Today, you can use both printed and internet resources to do this quite easily.  You will be amazed, as I was, at the fact that there is a scripture for just about any type of sin you are dealing with.  It is just like Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 1:9 that there is nothing new under the sun.

Let me provide you with some examples of sins we may commonly deal with and list some anecdotal scriptures for you:

Losing our temper:

“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” Psalm 14:20

“A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.” Proverbs 15:18

“The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.” Proverbs 17:17

“In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.” 1 Timothy 3:11

Gossip

“A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.”  Proverbs 11:13

“A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”  Proverbs 16:18

“A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.”  Proverbs 20:19

“The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just.”  Psalm 37:30

“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18

Laziness

“Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.” Proverbs 19:15

“Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks.” Ecclesiastes 10:18

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

“For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified”  Romans 2:13

I encourage you to write the scriptures down and began reading, reciting and recalling them throughout the day and during your prayer time.  I recommend taking these scriptures and forming your prayers something like these:

Temper

Lord, I do not want to be someone known as having a quick-temper who stirs up conflict.  God I pray that I become more understanding and patient.   I want to be a woman who is worthy of respect instead of someone who creates quarrels.

Gossip

Lord, I want to be a woman who is trustworthy, speaking wisdom, and bringing healing to circumstances.  Forgive me for gossiping, for it is reckless and may potentially create conflict for others.

Laziness

Lord, I know that you despise slothfulness, so I pray that I will intentionally live my life with purpose and productivity.  May I not be a hearer only, but someone who is also a doer, too.

Ladies, I pray that you find this tip to be helpful.  I am confident that if you are committed to overcoming sin and self with God’s help, you will!  God is going to change you from glory to glory!  Praise His name!!!
